Target Audience

Target Audience

Our target Audience is primarily teenage/ college level males. We are really in need for male mentors. Teenage and college age men and women are so important to the success of this organization. They provide invaluable insight and experience to the little's. We picked articles we thought would be interesting and exciting to our target audience. By hosting events at sports games, we hope to attract more male mentors who find interest in these fun activities. We hope they will also see the success stories, and will reach out to us in hopes of finding the same type of successful relationship.

Bridgewater BBBS in High Need of Mentors

The need for Big’s is at an all time high currently. We have about 20 Little Brothers and Little Sisters who are waiting to be matched with their own “Big”. Vanessa Mossop who is the Executive Director/Caseworker for the Bridgewater office of Big Brothers Big Sisters, has been a part of this organization since July and loves every minute of it. Vanessa always raves about how much she loves interacting with all of the Little’s. But since we are in dire need of more Big’s, Mossop has decided, “she wants to expand the scope of the program by talking to community groups and organizations, addressing employee gatherings and offering information from kiosks at special events”. Big Brothers Big Sisters has been known to make a meaningful difference in the lives of at risk boys and girls. If you are at all interested in being a big brother or big sister, we have application forms that are available online and at the BBBS office at 821 King Street Unit 7. Once you have completed the application you can drop it off in the office and set up an appointment to have a one on one interview with Mossop. After you have been interviewed we will look over your application and have to ensure that there is a safe and beneficial environment for your future little!

We are also offering potential mentoring programs after school. This is still a one-on-one relationship with an older person, but the only difference is it is for one hour per week and it is during school hours. For people who work multiple jobs and do not have much free time on their hands, I would recommend to do the mentoring program. Mossop also organizes monthly fun events for all of the children who already have bigs. The events include; Kids and Kops event which involves the RCMP and the Bridgewater Police Department, and a fishing derby and hockey games. All of the kids enjoy these games so much and Big Brothers Big Sisters plan on creating more events for even their families to do as well!

Big Brothers Big Sisters Success Story: Zach and Bryce

Zach Hokett and Bryce Hammond have become extremely close in the past two years. Back in the day when they first met they had some awkward encounters with each other. Their ice breaker was when they both went onto Bryce’s trampoline and Zach accidentally bounced Bryce off of it. At first, Zach felt bad about it, but who knew that Bryce would find it extremely funny. After this encounter that they had Bryce knew that they would be the perfect match for each other. Both Zach and Bryce share a lot of things in common. They usually joke at the Seattle Seahawks game and go to the bowling alley to enjoy a fun night out and even go hiking on the weekends. Their relationship is exactly what Big Brothers Big Sisters likes to arrange.
Bryce is a child of divorce so he found himself living in a busy single home. Growing up in that type of environment Bryce needed a mentor to teach him that there are better things out there. Something they also had in common was they are both kids of divorce. Zach could see that Bryce was having a difficult time trying to adjust to his parents not being together anymore. This way, Zach would give Bryce advice on how to overcome it and Zach would also tell Bryce that his parents will both be happier this way. Bryce is a part of the boy scouts so he is outdoors most of the day per week and he also claims he is now enjoying school more than he did a few years earlier. Bryce also likes video games quite a bit, but they are not his number one priority anymore. Big Brothers Big Sisters is very proud to say they have made a match made in heaven.
Matches like these two are made everyday. But there are still plenty of need for mentors like you. Kids are on the waiting list right now, anticipating the news that they got a Big. Big Brothers Big Sisters invites you to join the cause and celebrate with us today.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Receives Big Check in Tallahassee

Big Brothers Big Sisters CEO, Alva Striplin has recently received a check for $1,300 from the Public Relations and Behavior Change Marketing firm on their National Philanthropy Day. They won this money through the Salter Mitchell annual Chili Cook-off in Tallahassee that was held on November 12th. Big Brothers Big Sisters will also receive additional funds in December since the Cook-off first donated the prize money through the Community Foundation of North Florida’s Endowment Match Day on November 5. It was a beautiful, cloudless day at the cook-off and we were extremely lucky to get celebrity judges to attend. Our judges were the very well known Skip Foster whom is the publisher of the Tallahassee Democrat, Kathy Bell who is the COO at Coloney Bell Engineering and John Padgett, who is the center director for Florida Blue Tallahassee.
Since each match costs about $1,400 to $1,500 a year, this donation is really going to help out the BBBS organization. Everyone’s favorite chili was “Striplin’s ‘Big Flavor, Little Bite” so it was declared the People’s Choice winner. Heidi Otway the director of public relations at Salter Mitchell claimed, “We look forward to the chili cook-off every Halloween because we’re helping local non-profits raise money, build new relationships and generate awareness of their cause in a fun and easy way. Once again I am so excited to announce that we have received such a large donation of money to help out Big Brothers Big Sisters!" Big Brothers Big Sisters Thanks the PR and Behavior Change Firm as well as the community of Tallahassee.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Back-To-School Supply Drive

Schools supplies are a necessity for children going through the school system and Staples of New Minas acknowledged that. They decided to help the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Annapolis Valley out by collecting school supplies at their store and all of them being through donations. They feel money donations are better than donating supplies because some kids may need specific things. These donations are going to mean a great deal to the littles and their families when starting the school year off. Starting the school year off right is going to motivate them all year is Staples hope.
bbbs.jpgThe general manager of Staples, Jodi Manthorne, even stood on a cherry picker until their goals were meet daily.  All employees are thrilled with the efforts that people are putting in to help the community. The staples workers say they enjoy helping their local Big Brother Big Sister organization because they are able to see directly what they are raising goes to.
This is Staples 4th year teaming up with Big Brother Big Sister and they are excited for the years to come when partnering with them in the future. They love the effort that all members of the Staples workers put in as well as the community members. This shows them how well everyone comes together as a community as a whole.
The BBBS organization is having a fun filled summer with Big/ Little pairs. After the Back- To- School Supply drive they are hosting a 100th Anniversary of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada by having a family fun filled day.  They are going to be having donations as well as fun family activates that all will enjoy.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Get Surprise Visit from NFL Star Cam Newton

If you are from the Charlotte area or anywhere in North Carolina the name, Cam Newton, should be one that rings a bell.  Cam Newton is the quarterback for the Carolina Panthers and is a crowd favorite.  In Charlotte an annual party, the Big Holiday Bash, takes place with more than 500 Bigs and Littles from the Big Brother Big Sisters of Greater Charlotte and he made a surprise visit.
Cam Newton made a surprise visit to be with the organization and this is his second year in doing so.  While he took time out of his busy schedule he made it a point to come see and support the kids. He shared stories from his youth as well as spent one on one time with some of the Big Little pairs. With Cam Newton being a local celebrity the kids were going crazy. He also made sure to thanks all the volunteers and workers for their time and dedication in all that they do for the organization.  Having Cam Newton there meant the world to the kids and meant the world to our organization.
The Cam Newton Foundation is an organization that Cam Newton started and it is based around enhancing the youth by acknowledging their physical, social, and educational needs. CEO of Big Brother Big Sister of Greater Charlotte, Karen Calder, believes that with Cam Newton coming to BBBS events it “increases the level of visibility” on our organization. The mission statement of our organization goes hand in hand with Cam Newton’s, ‘Every 1 Matters’. We cannot thank Cam Newton enough for all that he has done and for taking the time to come help out the kids within the organization.
